13abc tours Give Kids the World, destination for Make-A-Wish

Posted: Updated:
Tucked away, just outside the Orlando city limits, is a special place for special children.

It's an all-inclusive resort that has everything a child could wish for, all within minutes of theme parks where dreams come true.

The resort is "Give Kids The World Village," a non-profit destination for children facing life-threatening illnesses.

75% of the children who stay here are from Make-A-Wish.

Wish families get to stay in one of the 148 villas for a week, free of charge.

They're also given tickets to the parks, but Give Kids The World is a park in itself, from rides to pools to a theatre. There's even a 24 hour ice cream stand!

It's all accessible for every child here.

There's also an emotional tradition.

Every child who comes to Give Kids The World writes his or her name on a star.

That star then joins the tens of thousands of others on the walls and ceilings inside of a castle.

Some of those children are still with us, others are not.

Volunteers say parents often return to Give Kids The World to look at the stars to see their child's wish live on.

Give kids the world is all made possible through volunteers and donations. And your donation of frequent flyer miles to make a wish will help get kids from Toledo to Orlando.

Just like the name says those here aim to Give Kids The World and Give kids the courage to stand up to the life threatening illnesses they face.

But before you can Give kids the world, you have to get them there through organizations such as make a wish.
