Free spa day for cancer patients

Posted: Updated:
Most of us know someone who is fighting cancer and there's a local spa working to make that battle just a little easier. You can be a part of the effort by simply enjoying a glass of wine. The "Charmed and Cherished Wine-Tasting Event" is Thursday night at Fifth Third Field. It's a fundraiser for the non-profit organization Cherished Friends of Ahava. It will include a wine tasting, a buffet of appetizers and desserts as well as a silent auction.

All the money raised will help provide a free day at the Ahava spa in downtown Toledo for men and women undergoing cancer treatment. In the last nine years, they have given that gift to nearly 1,000 people in our community. Sue Mather is on the Board of Directors,"We've seen so many special things happen. The letters that we get back really tell us how this program has helped changed their life. Allowed them to take a few moments off of their cancer treatment and put the focus on them so they can get on with their lives."

The "Charmed and Cherished Wine-Tasting Event" is Thursday night from 6-8 at Fifth Third Field. Tickets are $45 and $55. In addition to raising money for the program, organizers are also looking for cancer patients who would like to spend a day at the Ahava Spa.
