Three Owens Community College student-athletes have earned Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week honors.
Lexi Williams (Home School/Swanton, Ohio), a freshman right handed pitcher, earned OCCAC pitcher of the week honors in softball after tossing five shutout innings in an April 23 win over Lakeland Community College. She struck out five and allowed only four hits.
The Express softball team is 19-7 overall and 11-1 in OCCAC play. They clinched the OCCAC championship a couple weeks ago and are scheduled to host Grand Rapids Community College at 4 p.m. today.
In baseball, Dru Sebastian (Blackhawk Christian/Fort Wayne, Ind.) earned OCCAC pitcher of the week honors, while Michael Finch (Norwalk/Norwalk, Ohio) earned OCCAC player of the week honors.
Sebastian picked up three wins last week, including two in conference games. Over four appearances, he tossed 8.1 innings and allowed three runs, seven hits and three walks while striking out 12.
Finch went 8-for-17 (.471) in five games last week. In those 17 at bats, he had five runs, two doubles, one home run, five RBIs and one stolen base. He also tossed 3.2 innings on the mound, while allowing six hits, two runs and one walk. He struck out two.
The Express baseball team is 17-23 overall and 8-12 in OCCAC play. They have won seven of their past eight games, including the last three. The team is in Cleveland, Ohio today and tomorrow taking on Lakeland Community College in their final regular season action of the season.
