Recycling plant fire could burn for at least a week

Posted: Updated:
A fire at the Stickney Recycling Center on Creekside near Stickney Avenue is expected to burn for at least a week.

The blaze started about 6 a.m. on Friday and firefighters say it will be hard to extinguish. The flames are burrowed deep into a pile of recyclables, which makes it hard to fight.

Firefighters have been been keeping a presence at the fire, rotating every four hours. They say they will monitor the air quality, but there shouldn't be any health concerns unless you have a respiratory conditions.

Officials advise people to avoid contact with the smoke.
