Rinker Takes Fifth, as Falcons Finish Sixth at MAC Men's Golf Championships

Freshman golfer Brett Rinker finished in fifth-place overall at his first conference championship event to lead Bowling Green State University to a sixth-place team finish at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships hosted by Toledo May 2-4 at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.
The Falcons turned in its lowest team score over the four rounds of play on Sunday with a 294, +6, to finish the MAC Championships with rounds of 296, 295, 309 and 294 and in sixth-place overall with a combined 72-hole team score of 1194, +42.
BGSU finished only two shots behind fifth-place Miami (1192, +40) and ahead of Ball State (1195, +43), Ohio (1206, +54) and Northern Illinois (1213, +61) in the nine team field.
Rinker carded a BGSU low round 70,-2 under par, on Sunday to give him rounds of 73, 69, 77 and 70 overall and place him in fifth-place overall with a combined 72-hole score of 289, +1. With his three birdies on the final round of play, the freshman totaled nine birdies over the four-round event.
Rinker's fifth-place finish was the highest showing by a Falcon individual at the MAC Championships since Matt Schneider finished in a tie for fifth-place overall at the 2009 conference championship event in Indianapolis, Indiana.
