U of M Big House to host prom

Posted: Updated:
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Students at a Flint-area high school are excited to experience a prom to remember.

For more than one reason.

Not only is it prom, but it's being held at the Big House.

Michigan Stadium is hosting Durand High's prom on Saturday. It's the first time the 100,000-plus-seat football venue has hosted a prom.

Dexter High School's prom will be held there next Saturday.

It's part of an effort to use Michigan Stadium more during its typical offseason. The stadium has hosted the NHL and is welcoming world soccer powerhouses Manchester United and Real Madrid this summer. It's also available for weddings and other events.

Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, the home of in-state rival Michigan State, has been available for high school proms since 2007.
