Ohio State Advances to NCAA Women’s Golf Championships

Ohio State Women’s Golf is headed to the NCAA Championships for the 19th time in school history and 14th under the tutelage of head coach Therese Hession. The Buckeyes carded an 18-over 306 on the final day to clinch the NCAA finals berth after skyrocketing up the standings with the second-best round of the entire Regional, 288, on Saturday.

Ohio State will be one of 24 schools competing in the Tulsa, Okla., vying for the 2014 national championship from May 20-23. It marks the Buckeyes’ third trip to the NCAA Championships final stage in the last five seasons and 10th excursion since the turn of the century.

Freshman Zoe-Beth Brake was the top OSU performer, contributing to the team tally in all three rounds and posting an event score of 221 (+5) to earn a share of 15th place overall on the individual leaderboard. 

The rest of the Buckeye frosh trifecta, Jessica Porvasnik and Katja Pogacar, finished in the top-40 as well. Porvasnik was the steady throughout, firing rounds of 75-74-75 to go 8-over at 224 (t-24th). Pogacar matched the opening round 75 before following with a 73 and 80 in the subsequent trips around the course. Her 228 (+12) placed Pogacar in a tie for 38th.

Junior Claudia Lim matched Porvasnik for the team’s lowest score on Sunday, putting up a 75 to help seal the deal. Lim totaled 229 (80-74-75; +13) to finished in a tie for 45th place. Senior Allison Harper dipped under par during Ohio State’s sizzling second round en route to a 73rd-place showing at 18-over.

Ohio State will be joined by two other Big Ten schools, Michigan State and Northwestern, in the 24-team field at the NCAA Championships.
