TARTA hopes to save kids from sex trade

Posted: Updated:
Bus drivers working for the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will be getting extra training to help them identify kids who might be at risk from being caught up in the sex trade.

According to TARTA , Toledo's proximity to  the Canadian border, access to transportation hubs and large number of strip clubs and massage parlors make it prime location for human trafficking and Toledo is considered an origin city where girls are recruited and then shipped to other states.

Drivers will learn how to identify potential victims, what to do if they witness suspicious activity and what to do if someone asks for help.

Buses will be considered safe havens where any victim can board a bus and tell the driver if they need help. The driver will then notify authorities who will meet the bus and take the victim to safety.

Signs will also be placed on buses to raise awareness of the problem and encourage victims to ask the driver for help.
