Severe weather hits Toledo area

Posted: Updated:
Clusters of severe thunderstorms crossed Northwest Ohio and Southeast MI late Tuesday.  Gusty winds downed power lines and tree limbs but no serious damage was reported by 6:00pm.  Trees were down in some areas including Wildwood and South Detroit in Toledo.  Skies turned dark and motorists dealt with brief heavy downpours and lightning as the storms moved through.  A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Lucas, Wood and Henry Counties late today but the storm cleared the area by 5:45pm.

Earlier, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Monroe County, MI until 4:30pm.  Another severe storm in Western Van Wert County in Ohio prompting a warning until 4:15pm.

Monroe County authorities told 13abc.com they received numerous reports of wires down.  Scattered power outages were reported.

This is the second day in a row for severe weather alerts that included tornado warnings yesterday.  Today's storms were the product of a cold front that will pass through the area tonight.  Temperatures tomorrow are expected to drop by about 20 degrees.
