Toledo Councilman Larry Sykes responded Wednesday to dash-cam video and a report from the Toledo Police Department stating there was no evidence of racial profiling.

Sykes told reporters that the investigation helped answer his questions as to why he was stopped.

He says now he’s focused on moving forward and his work on council.

The controversy stems from a traffic stop on Byrne Road. Sykes was pulled over because officers said they could read his back plate, and he didn’t have a front plate.

The stop prompted Sykes to write a letter to the chief of police, asking for a full investigation because he felt he was stopped without cause.

TPD ultimately found no wrongdoing on the part of the officers.

Sykes claims he never said he was racially profiled and apologized to the department, saying the whole incident has been blown out of proportion.

Sykes says he has no plans to step down, despite calls by some for his resignation.
