Matt Almester, a four-year letter winner from St. John's Jesuit High School, has become the newest member of the 2014-15 Owens Community College men's soccer freshmen class.

Almester, who graduated from Rossford High School locally, is transferring to Owens from NCAA Division I school Oakland University, where he redshirted as a member of the men's soccer team last year. He retains two years of eligibility at Owens.

As a senior at St. John's Jesuit, Almester had 22 goals and 12 assists en route to Division I First Team All-Ohio honors. Additionally, he was named First Team All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC), the TRAC Player of the Year and First Team All-District.

As a junior, Almester scored his team's only two goals in a 2-1 win over Sylvania Southview in the district championship game. He eventually would lead his team to an appearance in the regional finals.
