7 shot, 1 beaten at Sandusky bar

Posted: Updated:
Seven people were shot and another severely beaten at Geno's bar in Sandusky early Sunday morning.

Police say the trouble started around four in the morning at the bar, which was formerly known as DJ's Sports Bar. They aren't sure what started the incident and they aren't releasing the names of the victims yet.

People like Tiffany Hathorn, who lives directly behind the bar with her two children, are scared. "My daughter is scared to death. I'm worried for my safety, my kids' safety, my grandma's safety. Thank God the bullets haven't hit over here yet."

James Clinton says his cousin was one of the victims. He says his relative must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. "He is a good dude. He is well known in the city, everybody knows him. It's kinda shocking that he even got shot."

Marques Harper says it could just as easily have been him. "I have been in there multiple times. I'm surprised I wasn't there last night. I just fell asleep early."

Harper says the bar is usually packed with people and that violent incidents have happened there before. "I'm glad my mother is safe. She lives around the corner. I had to check on her."

Neighbors say it's a quiet neighborhood during the day, but when it gets dark, it gets dangerous.

Tiffany Hathorn is ready to leave. "I'm trying to find somewhere else to move."

No arrests have been made in the case.

The city of Toledo has big plans for the Reynolds Road corridor, and it's shelling out big bucks. Just last week, the city agreed to buy the site of the former Southwyck mall for $3M. That's if it can land a developer within 120 days. The designs call for a corporate headquarters. Southwyck closed in 2008. So did the Clarion hotel next door. The K-Mart next to that also pulled out, but today there's a welcome sign for some: A "now open" sign. It's on the front of the former K-Mart, showing of...
