ODOT says frost heaves to blame for cracks on I-475

Posted: Updated:
The wicked winter caused major damage on I-475.
Cracks started forming on a section of I-475 and now there is a plan to fix the problem.
The initial fix is more like band-aid. The Toledo Blade reports the Ohio Department of Transportation says they need more time to figure out a long term solution.
ODOT says frost heaves caused large cracks and uneven conditions on stretches of 475.
The cracks showed up on new stretches of pavement, as part of the I-475 widening project. We told you about the problem a few months ago and had many drivers concerned.
ODOT says it will seal the cracks in the next few weeks but a permanent repair won't be made for several years.
Crews will take more samples of the roadway as engineers try to find a way to prevent the problems from happening again.
