Average salary of 425 new jobs coming to Findlay: $57,000

Posted: Updated:
A new grocery distribution center is coming to Findlay bringing with it 425 new jobs with an average salary of $57,000 a year.

The state approved financial incentives for McLane Company, Inc., on Tuesday to seal the deal.

The Texas-based wholesale supplier to grocery stores and restaurants expects to break ground this summer on the 337-thousand square foot facility right across the street from the Lowe's Distribution Center.

The site just south of County Road 212 in Findlay will soon be home to McLane Company’s 22nd grocery distribution center.

"This is the big one,” says Tony Iriti, Director of Findlay-Hancock County Economic Development. “This is one we've worked on for over a year."

On Tuesday the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 60 percent, 8-year tax credit for the project.

McLane, one of the largest U.S. wholesale food suppliers, plans to create 425 full-time positions generating more than $24.2 million in annual payroll.

The estimated average salary is $57,000 a year.

"When they first came to us we almost didn't believe it until we started working with the company more and more,” says Tim Mayle, Assistant Director of Economic Development for the Hancock County Alliance.

"Having that many new jobs coming into town at that pay rate is just going to be phenomenal for our community,” says Iriti.

The future facility is described as state-of-the-art because of the amount of automation.

"It's advanced distribution where now it's machinery and equipment operating the facility,” says Mayle.

"These positions need to have more highly skilled jobs and workers for this particular operation,” says Iriti.

The facility is expected to be up and running by March of 2016.  It will serve grocery stores in the Great Lakes region, including Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
