2 former judges to oversee Lucas Co. BOE

Posted: Updated:
Ohio’s Secretary of State is bringing in outside help to certify the most recent election and help with operations going forward.

This comes as three board members and top staff members wait to hear if they'll be terminated.

Secretary of State Jon Husted sent a letter to the Board of Elections Tuesday, saying that some independent judges will be coming in to make sure May's election is properly certified and to help the board continue to carry out its job.

Two former judges, Judge Charles Wittenberg, who used to serve in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, along with Judge Peter Handwork, formerly of the court of appeals. will be providing oversight.

They'll oversee the certification of the primary and the Toledo City Council District Two race.

The secretary of state said in his letter that he expects the board members and staff will fully cooperate with the judges.

A spokesman for the secretary says there's no timetable as to when a final decision will come down as to the fate of the board members, director and deputy director.

It's a homeowner's worst nightmare. Back in March, Raymond Musialowski says he arrived at his house to find his patio door open. He credits his dog as the reason nothing was stolen. Like many Point Place residents, he came out Wednesday night because he worries about increased crime."There's more break-ins in the neighborhood, problems with drugs, people are doing the wrong things," says Musialowski. "People need to take back their neighborhoods. And taking back your neighborhoods means you n...
