Robbers target S. Toledo convenience store

Posted: Updated:
Carol Whitzel bravely talked to 13abc about the night her Stop & Go got robbed.  The assistant manager was in the back working when she says two masked men came into the Arlington Ave. convenience store and demanded cash at gunpoint.

"He grabbed me to the counter and told me to open up the safe and open up the cash register," says Whitzel who followed orders.  "I was a wreck, I was nervous. It had never happened to me before, and it was very upsetting."

Since that May 5 robbery, police believe the same armed suspects have robbed three other Stop & Go's in south Toledo, and an east side Sunoco gas station.

"This is of particular concern because it's been five robberies in the last 15 days that we've been able to attribute to these two individuals," says Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

While no one has been seriously hurt, the criminals pistol whipped one clerk, which is disturbing news to customers.  Police want to catch the armed and dangerous crooks before they strike again.

"We're asking that if anyone sees anything going on, please call 911 immediately," says Sgt. Heffernan, who also recommends people can call the Crime Stopper tip line at 419-255-111 if they have information.

"We'll take physical descriptions on the persons, any type of license plate off the car or car color or car type. Things like that are very helpful to us."
