Ryan Callahan Earns MAC West Division Player of the Week Honors

Sophomore OF Ryan Callahan was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for the period of May 12-17, the league office announced on Tuesday. Callahan’s selection marks the second straight week that a Rocket has been picked as either the division’s top hitter or hurler. Senior LHP Ryan Wilkinson collected MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week accolades a week ago.

      Callahan is receiving this distinguished honor for the first time in his collegiate career.

      The Delta, OH native batted a team-high .556 (10-for-18) with a squad-tying best three runs scored, a team-high two home runs and a squad-best five RBI in four games this past week. Callahan added a team-high .556 on-base percentage and a robust 1.000 slugging percentage. He hit safely in all four contests, posting three multi-hit efforts. The second-year Rocket opened the week hitting 4-for-5 with two runs scored, one round tripper and two RBI at Youngstown State on Tuesday. Two days later vs. Eastern Michigan in the series opener, Callahan went 2-for-4 with one RBI. The following afternoon, Callahan batted 1-for-4 with one triple. He then ended the regular season by going 3-for-5 with one run scored, one home run and two RBI.

      Overall this spring, Callahan batted .278 (45-for-162) with 20 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, a team-tying best four home runs and a squad-tying high 29 RBI in 38 games. He currently ranks tied for ninth in the MAC in round trippers. He hit safely in 26 contests, including 14 multi-hit and a team-best nine multi-RBI efforts. The second-year Rocket finished first on the team in slugging percentage (.420) and multi-RBI games, tied for first in home runs and RBI, second in batting average, three-base hits and total bases (68), tied for second in multi-hit efforts, tied for third in two-base hits, fourth in hits and fifth in runs scored. 

      Callahan ended the spring on fire, batting a team-high .351 (27-for-77) with 11 runs scored, two three-base hits, a squad-best three round trippers, a team-high 17 RBI and 43 total bases from April 20-May 17.
