Beef in E. coli recall pulled from GFS shelves locally

Gordon Food Services has confirmed that ground beef possibly contaminated with E. coli was shipped to that store.

The company says it stocked one of the products included in the recall called Fresh Premium Angus Beef Steakburger Patty, 10 count, 4 lb package.

The meat was been pulled from the shelves and disposed of. The company says it also posted the recall information on its website.

At least three people in Lucas County have been sickened by the contaminated meat. The Health Department is still waiting on confirmation of a fourth case.

Gordon Food Services released this statement about the recalled meat.

GFS Marketplace stores stock one of the products that was included in the Wolverine Packaging Co. voluntary beef recall.  That product is a Fresh Premium Angus Beef Steakburger Patty, 10 count, 4 lb package.  The recalled product was produced between March 31, 2014 and April 18, 2014.  The GFS Marketplace store reorder number is 841757.  

Upon learning of the recall on May 19, GFS Marketplace implemented standard recall procedures, which includes urgent notification to the stores with instructions to dispose of all recalled product and display a recall notice. Gordon Food Service also posted the recall notice it received from Wolverine Packaging Co. on gfs.com.

Any customer that purchased the Fresh Premium Angus Beef Steakburger affected by the Wolverine Packaging Co. voluntary recall should discard any remaining product immediately. Customers will be issued a full refund of their purchase by bringing either their sales receipt or the product packaging to their local GFS Marketplace store.
