13abc's Tony Geftos warns neighbors when fire reignites on live TV

Posted: Updated:
An overnight house fire at 134 Hausman reignited hours after it first started, during 13abc's morning broadcast.

It prompted reporter Tony Geftos to drop his microphone and start banging on doors to warn neighbors.

The rekindled fire followed an overnight investigation where the man who lives in the home claims he was attacked by an intruder.

That resident told Toledo Police a man broke in, held a gun to his head, then set the home on fire.

He managed to escape the flames by jumping through a window.

Around 3:20 a.m., Toledo Firefighters contained the flames to a single room at the home, but around 6:30 a.m. the flames started once again, apparently fanned by a stiff breeze.

Our reporter, who was standing across the street with neighbor Ashlee Curtis, asked her to call 911 seconds before the flames began to take off.

No one was hurt in the second fire. The man who lives at the home went to the hospital for smoke inhalation and what firefighters describe as a gash on his head.

Arson investigators and police detectives are still trying to determine whether someone set the fire on purpose and who may be responsible.

The homeowner, whose cousin stays at the residence, tells 13abc she had three cats living in the house but was only able to locate one following the fires.
