Memorial Day outlook for travel

Posted: Updated:
Come Monday, it'll be alright.   Yes, scattered showers are in the forecast, and yes, it will be warm and breezy.   But you'll be enjoying the scenery, and not just in our area.

If you're sticking close by, it could be the south wind you'll be feeling.   Here's why: the setup is similar to this week's, with a storm complex over Superior.

Our islands and bays are for sportsmen, sure, but water temperatures near Sandusky Bay are a crisp 64° today.

Sweet Home Chicago draws in thousands for memorial day.   The Windy City's forecast is almost a mirror image of the Glass City's and beach season starts tomorrow.

Get ready to battle crowds and early-season mosquitoes if you're headed for northern Michigan.  Cheboygan and Mackinaw Island average 66° for a high on the 26th, nearly ten degrees cooler than Toledo.   The U.P. is a haul and features an even better chance of rain.   Earlier in the weekend, though, you'll feel the sun upon your skin, like at Pictured Rocks, hard against the wind.

Winds this weekend will generally be lighter out of the north or northwest.   By Monday, strengthening winds will cost you some gas money if you're heading east or west.   While we forecast rain, AAA forecasts up to 80% of travelers will be driving, so that line at the pump will be just a bit longer.
