Highway dedicated to fallen Green Springs Marine

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio - The name of a Sandusky County Marine, killed in Iraq, will be proudly displayed through the village of Green Springs thanks to a ceremony Friday.  It's a tribute people will see for years to come and a chance to remind everyone of his service.

State route 19 is not called Lance Corporal Jeremy S. Shock Memorial Highway.

The kids of Green Springs Elementary honored a classmate that preceded them by many years and gave his life for our country.  Friday was the official dedication of state route 19, to LCpl Shock who died in Fallujah Iraq in November of 2006.

“This is a wonderful thing but I just wish he was here," said Sherry Shock, LCpl Shock’s mother.

"I've seen them in other communities and thought it was a great tribute to them and always wanted it for Jeremy," said Duane Shock, LCpl Shock’s father.

LCPL Shock is remembered as a hard worker, someone with a smile on his face.  His childhood friend told the crowd that seeing the sign should encourage them to research his service and the service of others with a similar honor along our nation's roads.

“All of the support we continue to get is just unbelievable.  We appreciate it so much.  It's a beautiful thing," said Sherry Shock.

Some of the kids even brought simple gifts of thanks for simple reasons.

"To be respectful," said Green Springs 4th grader Daniel Mittower.

"I'm probably going to change the way I come home from work so I can come home every day so I can go by it every day," said Sherry Shock.

There are more events this weekend honoring LCpl Shock:
Friday 7:00pm Cornhole Tournament
Saturday 9:00am Softball Tournament
Saturday 9:00pm Rodney Parker w/Liberty Beach Band
Sunday 10:00am Mud Run
