Prosecutor: Ohio village police chief arrested

Posted: Updated:
GLOUSTER, Ohio (AP) - A prosecutor says a southeastern Ohio village police chief facing felony charges helped a woman he knew avoid arrest.

Glouster Chief Luke Mace was arrested Friday on obstruction of justice charges.

Athens County Prosecutor Attorney Keller Blackburn tells The Athens Messenger  that the charges are related to a woman who had warrants out for her arrest in two counties.

The prosecutor says Mace met with the woman this past week and should have arrested her, but instead allowed her to stay at his house.

Blackburn says Mace also warned the woman that the sheriff's office was looking for her.

It wasn't immediately clear if Mace had an attorney. There was no telephone listing for Mace in the village.

The obstruction of justice charges are both fifth-degree felony counts.
