COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a home invasion suspect has shot himself in the head after holding a SWAT team at bay in Columbus for more than two hours.

Columbus Police say the unidentified suspect was in critical condition at Grant Hospital after shooting himself Sunday afternoon. Police say the armed man held a SWAT team at bay while standing near a pond on the city's east side from 11:15 a.m. to just before 2 p.m.

Police say that an officer shot the suspect in the leg after a confrontation and then the man then shot himself.

Police say the man was a suspect in a home invasion and burglary in a home in Obetz. Police tracked him down to his home and then briefly chased him before the standoff began.
