Shortly after a wicked fire in Fostoria early Monday morning left two people dead, investigators revealed it was no accident.  Now three suspects face charges that could carry the death penalty.

Crime tape and charred debris mark the scene of a deadly arson on South Poplar Street.

Danny Marker Jr. and Tara Vance both died in the fire.

Marker and two others inside were hearing impaired. Vance and a third women were visiting from out of town. The third woman made it out alive after jumping from a window.

Investigators say three people, Shey Weiker, Tim Hall and Chuck Schaeffer intentionally set the house on fire.

All three suspects faced a judge Tuesday morning on aggregated murder and arson charges. Those charges carry the possibility of the death penalty.

The big question is a motive. A neighbor says marker was recently targeted.

“His brother said he was dead-bolting the door, because people was beating him up and stealing his money,” he says.

The attack was not random. Friends tell 13abc Weiker knew Marker. Public records show Marker was also a register sex offender for having sexual contact with a young boy.

All three suspects are being held in jail and will appear for preliminary hearings within the next 10 days, before the case is presented to the Seneca County grand jury.

The prosecutor must decide whether to pursue capital punishment.

As for the exact cause of the fire, the state fire marshal is still investigating.
