2 local students to compete in Scripps National Spelling Bee

It's that time of year when the nation's top young spellers put their vocabulary skills to the test.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee kicks off Tuesday, and a couple local sixth graders are among the 281 kids hoping to spell their way to the championship.

Phoebe Jackson goes to Woodmore Elementary in Woodville. Alotus Nguyen Wei attends Shawnee

Middle School in Lima. Both girls will take part in the competition.

Organizers will crown a champ on Thursday.

The McComb fire chief says it’s unclear at this time how the fire started There were no injuries reported. Sunday services at the church have been cancelled The State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause of the fire.
