Suspect in fatal Fostoria arson had accused victim of rape

Posted: Updated:
Two people are dead after an arson attack at a home in Fostoria, and three people are charged with the crime. Now we’re learning more about one of the suspects and a possible motive.

Everyone has questions about why someone would set Danny Marker Jr's home on fire. The investigation is ongoing, but 13abc has obtained new documents that shed light on the relationship between one of the suspects and the victim.

Shey Weiker filed multiple police reports during the past year. One of them accuses Danny Marker Jr. of rape.

Weiker is facing charges of aggravated murder and aggravated arson for allegedly Marker’s home on fire, killing him and Tara Vance.

It turns out Weiker knew the Marker family well. In fact, it appears there was a major line in the sand between the two families. A report filed with Fostoria police in February shows an allegation of rape against Marker.

The report lists one of the suspects, Tim Hall as a witness, Shey Weiker as the parent and a young male as the victim.

Police are refusing to give 13abc the full report, claiming the case is still under investigation.

Marker was a registered sex offender in the State of Ohio for a conviction involving sexual contact with a young boy, but Marker's family says he wasn’t hurting anyone.

"He would help anybody. He would have given them the clothes off his back if he had them," says mother Nancy.

Fostoria police never filed any charges against Marker. At this point, they are still not releasing a motive for the deadly fire, but the police reports could hold the missing piece to the puzzle.

All three suspects faced a judge Tuesday for a preliminary hearing. Now the cases will be presented to a grand jury in Seneca County Common Pleas Court. That could happen as soon as June 11. The prosecutor will have to decide if they plan on seeking the death penalty.
