Charlie Sanders Honors

Posted: Updated:
An inaugural celebration called the St. Jude Evening of Hope is planned for 6 p.m. on Monday, June 23, at the Royal Park Hotel to raise awareness and funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and honor Charlie Sanders, Pro-Football Hall of Famer, Class of 2007; former Detroit Lions tight end; seven-time Pro  Bowl player and current Lions assistant director of pro personnel. Sanders was selected as this year’s honoree for his successful athletic career as well as for his work in the community via the Charlie Sanders Foundation.

The Legends for Charity program is one in a series of events planned by Cheryl DeLeonardis, former Miami Dolphins cheerleader and owner of Ocean 2 Ocean Productions. The concept is to recognize sports leaders with philanthropic hearts in various markets across the country.

Guests of the St. Jude Evening of Hope will enjoy a cocktail reception, dinner and exciting live auction. The event will be held at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, which is where Charlie Sanders currently resides and where his foundation is based. The program will be emceed by Dan Miller, FOX 2 Detroit sports director and anchor.

Thanks to events like this, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit stjude.org/detroitlegendsdinner, or call Angela Halverson at (248) 546-8086. Individual tickets are $125 and sponsorships are available, starting at $1,000.

About Legends for Charity®

Legends for Charity® is an annual national event held during Super Bowl Weekend to present The Pat Summerall Award to a deserving broadcaster. It is the only event held at the prestigious NFL headquarters hotel that celebrates national sports legends while raising awareness and funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Since its inception more than eight years ago, the event has raised $2.5 million for St. Jude kids and recently expanded regionally to recognize local sports leaders who are philanthropic, too. St. Jude and Ocean 2 Ocean Productions are now branching out this concept into regional events around the country.

About St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers, and treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since we opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent in the next decade. St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs we make, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
