Three Softball Players Named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes

Lourdes University’s Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.), Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.), and Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) have been named a 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced.

Cherry, a senior pitcher, finished with 13 career wins and three shutouts while posting a 3.69 earned run average.  In 2014 she earned six victories while striking out 42 hitters in 101.2 innings in the circle. 

A member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) All-Academic Team over the past two seasons as well, Cherry is a health administration major carrying a 3.976 GPA through the fall semester.

Graham, a senior pitcher, posted 10 career victories in the circle, including a pair of shutouts, and compiled a 5.03 ERA.  In 2014, Graham logged 98.2 innings, striking out 38 while picking up five wins.

Also a two-time member of the WHAC All-Academic Team, Graham is a middle childhood education major with a 3.849 cumulative GPA through last fall.

West, a redshirt-sophomore catcher, has batted .272 over two seasons with the Gray Wolves, starting 72 career games.  This past year she also hit .272 with one home run and 12 runs batted in while scoring 16 times.

West was named to the WHAC All-Academic Team for the first time in 2014.  A physical therapy major, she carried a 3.887 cumulative GPA through the fall semester.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
