A former Clay high school athletic trainer takes a plea deal. A judge found Melinda Rober guilty of sleeping with a Clay High School student.

The former athletic trainer signed a document and agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors. 36 year old Melinda Rober pleaded no contest to having sex with a Clay High School student. A judge found her guilty on two counts of sexual battery.  Her attorney says rober is remorseful and accepts what she did wrong.

"She made a mistake and she knows it and she's going to have to live with it the consequences of that for the rest of her life," said Lawyer Stephen Hartman.

At the time of the allegations -- she was employed by Promedica as an athletic trainer. Prosecutors say if this case would have gone to trial.
Prosecutors claim they would have proved Rober had sexual relations with the student from December 2011 to May 2012.  September 2012 to October 2012 on different occasions at Clay high school in the locker room and other places.

"The defendant was interviewed by Janet Zale on April 19, 2013 where in fact she admitted she met D.D. two or three times in the football stadium at Clay High School," said Jennifer Lambdin of the Lucas County Prosecutor's  Office.

Prosecutors say she also admitted to having sex with the student at his home. She will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. Attorney Stephen Hartman says his client did not commit a crime.

"She's not a predator this was a consensual encounter and testimony would have been presented she wasn't even the aggressor," said Hartman.

The judge could sentence Rober to probation or up to ten years in prison. Rober will be sentenced June 19th.
