SJL Broadcasting stations 13abc WTVG in Toledo and abc12 WJRT in Flint join forces this Friday for the third annual “Thunder in the Hills” live simulcast from Michigan International Speedway.  The program is presented in Toledo by your Northwest Ohio Ford Dealers.

The two ABC affiliates combine sports reporters to present the one-hour special.  13abc Sports Director Dave Holmes will co-host the broadcast which includes inside stories about the teams, driver interviews and guests including ESPN expert and former champion Rusty Wallace.  A special interview with driver Chase Elliott and his father Bill will be included.  Pace car driver Mike Skinner will take viewers for a spin at the Michigan, known as the fastest track in NASCAR.

13abc and abc12 have stepped up as associate sponsors for the #23 BK Racing Dr. Pepper Toyota for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup race on Sunday at MIS.  Logos for 13abc and abc12 will appear on the side of the race car driven by rookie Alex Bowman.  13abc and abc12 sponsored Bowman’s car in the ARCA race at Michigan three years ago.

The speedway is located near Brooklyn, Michigan, which is midway between the Toledo and Flint television markets.  The show and MIS partnership has been so successful that the concept was taken last year to sister station WENY in Elmira, NY for “Thunder at the Glen” which aired live in August from Watkins Glen International Speedway. Watkins Glen is a sister track to Michigan International Speedway.  WENY will again air the Watkins Glen broadcast this year with technical and satellite support provided by 13abc.

Two students have been arrested in connection to threats made against Tecumseh High School. Police say investigators have also searched their homes for evidence. The investigation is still ongoing, however police say they have determined the students were never going to carry out the threat. The Lenawee County prosecutor's office tells us at least one of the suspects is 16 years old.
