Police: BG man threatens to shoot little league team inside BW3’s

Posted: Updated:
A Bowling Green man allegedly threatened to shoot members of a little league baseball team as well as staff at a BG restaurant.

Police say it happened around 10 p.m. on Thursday at Buffalo Wild Wings on East Wooster Street.

Management here at BW-3's is not commenting on the chaos, but BG police say a man who was having dinner with his family became upset when a nearby table of little league baseball players was too loud.

Dozens of little league baseball teams from all over the state are in Bowling Green competing at Carter Park in the Nation’s Ohio State Championship.

The Haubner Hornets out of Cincinnati, as well as their families, had dinner Thursday night at BW3’s near their hotel.

According to police, a fellow diner, 46-year-old Jesus Vazquez-Garcia of BG, threatened to shoot the group of 11 and 12 year olds.

"He walked over to us and he kept saying, 'Shut up, shut up, shut up,’” says 12-year-old Nolan Hatten who plays for the Haubner Hornets.

"And then he said, ‘If you don't shut up I'm going to shoot you,’” says Sydney Stigler, the sister of a baseball player.

The argument inside the restaurant then escalated between Vazquez-Garcia and adults with the team.

"One of the staff members from BW3 tried to intervene.  That didn't work out so well,” says Lt. Brad Biller with the Bowling Green Police Department.

According to the report, Vazquez-Garcia threatened to return with a gun and went outside taunting one of the dads to come out and fight.

Police say the suspect told them, “He was upset that the large group was being loud, and that he wanted to enjoy a quiet meal with his family.”  The report states that Vazquez-Garcia “denied ever having threatened to shoot anyone, and denied even having access to a firearm.”

Police didn’t find a gun, however, Lt. Biller says, "He was displaying indications that he was heavily intoxicated."

Vazquez-Garcia did not answer his door today.

A team coach says what happened inside BW3’s won’t ruin the team’s trip.

"We just want to get back to why we're here, let these guys play ball, but in no way shape or form, there's idiots everywhere,” says Rusty Feth of Cincinnati.  "We'll probably be back over there this evening."

Vazquez-Garcia is being charged with aggravated menacing.  He is due in court next week.  He could face up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine.
