Clinton stresses voter turnout to Ohio Democrats

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton is accusing Republicans of trying to restrict voting as he stresses the importance of turnout in off-year elections to Democrats in Ohio.

Clinton made the comments Friday night at the Ohio Democratic Party's annual dinner in Columbus.

Republican-controlled legislatures in Ohio, Missouri, North Carolina and Wisconsin have taken recent steps to curtail early voting by limiting the days on which it's available.

Clinton's visit comes as his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, weighs a second bid for the White House.

Bill Clinton thanked Ohio residents for helping him carry the state in both his presidential elections. He mentioned "the many friends" his wife made in Ohio in 2008.

Hillary Clinton won the state's Democratic primary then over eventual nominee Barack Obama.
