Ohio's Jordan: No plans to seek House leadership

Posted: Updated:
LORAIN, Ohio (AP) - An influential Ohio conservative says he has no plans to seek a leadership position in Congress after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's surprise primary loss to a tea party-backed upstart.

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, an Urbana Republican, tells The Chronicle-Telegram that he enjoys his work on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and his general role in Washington.

He told the newspaper Friday he likes being "one of the conservative guys pushing for conservative principles."

Jordan was considered a contender to move up in the leadership vacuum left by Cantor's defeat Tuesday to Dave Brat in Virginia's Republican primary.

Jordan chaired the powerful Republican Study Committee and was recently named to a committee studying the 2012 deaths of four Americans in Benghazi.
