2nd family claims child abused by Riverdale teacher

Posted: Updated:
There are new developments surrounding the Hancock County teacher who was caught on tape pushing a student against the wall.

The family of another student has come forward, claiming their son was abused by that same teacher two years ago.

The father of an 8-year-old Riverdale student tonight confirmed that he's filed a report with the Hancock County sheriff.

He says the report alleges teacher Barb Williams abused his son when he was a kindergartner.

That father, Bryce Blanton, tells 13abc that he and his wife thought something was wrong and took their concerns to the school two years ago, but nothing came of it.

Blanton says something clicked when he saw news reports about an incident where Williams was caught on camera grabbing six-year-old Ian Nelson by the throat.

Williams is charged with misdemeanor child endangerment in that case.

The attorney for the Nelson family also represents the Blantons.

We asked him tonight why they waited two years before involving authorities.

“Because the child didn't disclose it until recently,” says attorney Dan Margolis. “Until just last weekend."

Bryce Blanton says this came to light this weekend after his son had a regular check-up with his pediatrician. He says the doctor believed further investigation was warranted.
