Clarion hotel officially coming down

Posted: Updated:
It's been vacant and vandalized for around 5 years, but the official word is in, and the Clarion Hotel on Reynolds road is set to be demolished.

Tuesday, Toledo City Council unanimously approved the demolitions costs.

The price tag; $950,000.

City leaders say the building is a huge safety concern, especially for firefighters.

Many people in the area agree saying it's ugly and abandoned and needs to come down.

"That corridor of our city is extremely important to the vitality and vibrancy of our city,"  Mayor D. Michael Collins said.

"You get off the turnpike from Chicago to invest in Toledo and take one look at the Clarion and you're going to get back on the turnpike,"  District 2 Councilman Matt Cherry told 13abc.  "This will help us out tremendously."

Demolition is set to begin in early July.

Crews hope to have it finished within 60 days.
