Dundee, Michigan has a population of around 4,000. Two of its residents have been crowned Miss Michigan in the past three years. Elizabeth Wertenberger was crowned Miss Michigan in 2011 and her friend KT Mavigila won the crown this year.

Elizabeth says, "It's absolutely crazy to think that in this small town there are two Miss Michigans. KT and I grew up together. She is a little sister to me."

KT agrees, "She was actually my babysitter for a little bit. Just a crazy thing that we are both from Dundee. KT is a 2010 graduate from Dundee and a former Miss Monroe County.  "Once my named was called, I was just so honored and excited. I knew my life would definitely change now that I am Miss Michigan."

KT, 21, says that Elizabeth got her started in pageants. The two have competed in many of the same pageants, but fortunately, not at the same time.

KT is counting on Elizabeth to help her prepare for the national spotlight. "I've known her for a long time and just always looked up to her and looked to her for inspiration and advice."

Elizabeth is ready to help. "I'm going to be her number one cheerleader and I'm going to give her all the advice I can, so she can walk away with that other opportunity."

Elizabeth and the whole Village of Dundee will be watching and cheering for their hometown girl in the Miss America Pageant on 13abc on September 14.

The 13abc I-Team taking you to the experts tracking what's going into the Maumee River that's causing that Lake Erie algal bloom. Too much of the toxic algae triggered the "do not drink" order at the start of the August. The Maumee River is one of the lake's greatest water sheds, running more than 130 miles from Indiana through Ohio to the lake. Changes to it could make all the difference. One local university is at the forefront of tracking what's going into the river.
