Parents and kids happy to see Toledo pools open

Posted: Updated:

The City of Toledo opened its public pools on Saturday and kids kicked off the first day of summer with a splash.

Willys, Roosevelt, Wilson, Navarre and Pickford Pools along with the Savage Splash Pad are open for the season and parents like Kesha Wadley are happy for their kids.
"Oh they're excited. They're very excited. Give them time to get out the house and away from me. Ha, ha, ha."

Swimmer Antwan Phillips is glad as well. "I would have been mad if it wasn't going to open, because we would have to go way on the north side."

Wilson and Jamie Farr Pools were originally slated to stay closed over the summer due to costly repairs. City Councilwoman Paula Hicks Hudson helped drum up support from local labor unions and organizations who teamed up to repair plumbing problems at North Toledo pools.

Toledoan Jerry Dotson was not happy with the possibility that pools might not open due to budget issues. "I thought it was ludicrous. It was dumb, stupid. If you shut the pools, then what? Kids can get in trouble."

Jamie Farr Pool on North Summit Street is still a work in progress, but could open in a few more weeks.
