5/3 reemployment program is open to everyone

Posted: Updated:
What began as an effort to help keep people from losing their homes to foreclosure has expanded. The 5/3 Bank reemployment campaign was started for bank customers but right now it's now open to everyone.

It all started a couple years ago when 5/3 looked for customers who were behind in their mortgage payments after losing their job. The bank offered them a comprehensive job search program including help with resume writing and counseling. Fifth Third teamed up with NextJob, a national firm that focuses on reemployment solutions and the program was a big success. Most of the people had been out of work for nearly two years and after six months 40% of them had landed a new job.

Fifth Third leaders say the program helps the homeowner and the bank because 5/3 obviously does not want to own and maintain homes because of foreclosure. Fifth Third has opened up access to the online job seeker's tool kit to everyone who is looking for work. There is also a social media component to the campaign, the bank will fund up to 53 one-on-one coaching scholarships. The scholarships will include four months of personalized job search assistance and anyone can apply whether they are a Fifth Third customer or not.

Bank leaders say the reemployment campaign will stay open to the public until July 10th. Elizabeth Kollar is a Senior Vice President of Consumer Lending, "We get you in the program and we are able to affect your life. Think about the confidence it builds to know that someone went over your resume, someone is helping you prepare for interviews. We are directly affecting lives."

Too much of the toxic algae triggered the "do not drink" order at the start of the August. The Maumee River is one of the lake's greatest water sheds, running more than 130 miles from Indiana through Ohio to the lake. Changes to it could make all the difference. One local university is at the forefront of tracking what's going into the river.
