Heat & storms expected to return

Posted: Updated:
Toledo, OH - As expected the heat and humidity are increasing out west and will be here for the weekend. The summer feel will bring an increase in thunderstorms through early next week. A few storms could be strong on Sunday evening with damaging winds and hail. Monday could be feast or famine when it comes to storms. Right now the Storm Prediction Center is not forecasting severe weather for our area. This could change in the coming days. It is all about timing and the cap. If storms do push into the area during the early morning hours on Tuesday then severe weather may not be an issue. However, the atmosphere late Monday afternoon and evening will be loaded with fuel for potential storms. The heat and humidity will keep instability very high. There will be enough wind shear to turn potential storms into dangerous thunderstorms. The big if comes down to the cap (a layer of stable warm air aloft). If that stable layer holds in place all day, the only thing severe about the weather will be the sun glare and potential sunburn if you don’t wear sunscreen. Temperatures will likely heat up into the low 90s. If the cap breaks or wears down late evening, temperatures may stay in the 80s and severe storms is a very good possibility.
