July 4th: Weather by the numbers

We’re expecting a gorgeous Independence Day around the entire region.  With highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s and plenty of sunshine, that’s a stark contrast to what the Buckeye State has witnessed the past few years.  For instance, the low back in drought-plagued 2012 was 71, close to our forecasted high this year. 

Below you’ll find a round-up of the last few years, both in Toledo and in Port Clinton (this was the closest we could get to Kelley’s Island or Put-In-Bay, which are popular holiday hotspots).

    New details about the new product being built at GM's Toledo Transmission plant. When GM first announced it would build the new 8 speed in Toledo, the only vehicle it was going in was the Corvette. That has changed and it will now be used in a number of trucks and SUV's including the 2015 Silverado, Suburban and Yukon with 6.2 liter engines. Bob Widmer is the launch manager for the new 8 speed line, "Is there a chance it will eventually be used in cars? Yes, but you will have to stay tuned ...

    Four-thousand pounds of potato salad, sauerkraut, and packets of sour cream for potato pancakes were destroyed in a trailer fire at the German American Festival in Oregon.Fire crews say the generator overheated and caught on fire around 6 a.m. Friday morning.
