Toledo man biking across country to fight gun violence

Posted: Updated:
A Toledo man is biking across the country to raise awareness about gun violence.  Charles Veley left the Glass City on June 11.  The 2,500 mile ride is expected to take about 90 days, with his final stop being Los Angeles, California.

The Toledo man says he is riding for his friends and family with the hope that he can make a difference.

In addition to gun violence, Charles wrote on his Twitter account that he is also raising awareness about domestic violence, bullying and fitness.

''I had to endure pain like I've never felt, and I admit that it made me the man I've always wanted to be in my life, except I want to help change the world for people that grew up like me,” he says.  ''Life is a joy and I'm living it in the USA. Why not go and meet the people like and not like me? With help we all can make a difference.''

Tonight Charles is staying in Texas. Tomorrow he plans to head towards New Mexico.

Donations can be made at any Fifth Third Bank to help him meet his goals. The account number is 0202 and the name on the account is C.C. Veley.
