Eckel Junction Rd. & SR 25 intersection project starts July 14

Posted: Updated:
No pain, no gain.   It's what drivers will have to keep in mind as work starts at the Eckel Junction Road and Dixie Highway intersection on July 14.

"Yes it will be a few months of headaches for us getting through the intersection," says council member, Todd Grayson. "But it will improve us going forward for years to come."

The $2.25 million project headed by the city of Perrysburg and ODOT will add capacity to the active intersection.   New turning lanes, sidewalks, signs and signals are just some of the planned improvements.

"There's a lot more development up and down Eckel Junction and up and down Route 25. As long as the city grows, this will be an important move for us," Grayson tells 13abc.

City leaders say the incoming Costco store was not a factor during project planning, but will help cut down on future congestion.  The warehouse giant is slated to go in at the southeast corner of Dixie Highway and Eckel Junction Road.

"Good to do it now before the new store comes in next year, so it's not all happening at once," says one driver, Trevor VanBerkom.

"This isn't just about Costco. There's other land just beyond Costco that will be developed," says Grayson.  "There's other land down the way on Eckel that inevitably will be grown and developed. This is part of an overall economic development."

Construction will stretch across Dixie Highway between Craig Drive and the I-475 entrance ramps, and most likely wrap up mid-December.  There are no detours planned, but there could be some lane closures.

"I'll probably avoid the area. I'll probably go another way home," says Bob London, another Perrysburg driver.

There will be a new police chief in Bryan starting Mid-September. And that chief will have one major case hanging over his department as it has been over the last 5 years.
