Holiday weekend proved to be a busy one for TFD

Posted: Updated:
The holiday weekend also proved to be a busy one for Toledo firefighters. Crews are investigating 12 structure fires, two of them are arsons, four are accidental and six are under investigation.

That has Toledo residents worried.

"The house fires. That vacant building over on Erie the other day that was crazy," said Britni Schinderling.

TFD administrators say from midnight Friday thru Sunday Toledo fire and rescue responded to 527 calls. Fire administrators say 455 of those calls were medical. More than 80 were fire related and 12 were structure fires throughout the city.

"We are not seeing any pattern and there's not really a concern at this point that there is an arsonist that's running around the city. As I said there's a few that were ruled accidental, some are still under investigation and two have been ruled arson," said Toledo Fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld.

Fire crews responded to 1479 South and 921 Booth on fires that investigators say someone intentionally set. Luckily no one was hurt.
Lieutenant Matthew Hertzfeld says the department's best eyes and ears are the community.

"If they see something in their neighborhood if they see suspicious activity in a vacant home they can contact us through our website
and they can send us information anonymously as well as contacting one of our fire investigators," said Lt. Hertzfeld.

Information that firefighters say can help keep our neighborhoods safe.
