Man on parole drops out of Michigan political race

Posted: Updated:
A Saginaw man on parole after serving prison time who was the lone Republican candidate in the November election for a state house seat has dropped out of the race.

Jordan D. Haskins confirmed to The Saginaw News (http://bit.ly/1q1MZ8T ) that he'll no longer be actively campaigning. The deadline for candidates to withdraw passed, so his name will be on the primary ballot Aug. 5.

Haskins had said that he knew that his criminal record works against him, but he says his life has changed.

The 24-year-old's cases include trespassing on private and public property in four cases from April 2010 to January 2011, when he was sent to prison. As part of the break-ins, he damaged vehicles as a way to facilitate what he told police was a sexual fetish.
