Classmates hope to organize blood drive in honor of wounded St. Francis running back

Posted: Updated:

Classmates of a teenager wounded in the shooting on East Streicher early Saturday morning are hoping to show their support for the victim by helping others.

Keontae Johnson was one of four teens who were shot and his classmates at St. Francis De Sales are being encouraged to donate blood to show their solidarity.

Keontae is a running back for the St. Francis Knights football team.  One classmate posted this suggestion on social media.

"Knights: As most of you know our brother Knight, Keontae, was the victim of a shooting last night. While he is recovering in the hospital, I believe it would be a great idea for us to show our support for him. There is a Red Cross Blood donation Center on Executive Parkway near Westgate shopping center that in having all day donation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday.

I think it would be a great thing if we could all head over there sometime that day and donate blood."

He goes on to say that even if none of that blood goes directly to Keontae, it would make a difference in the community and show what being a St. Francis Knight is all about.

Dozens of people had already shared that idea with their friends on social media.

The shooting is still under investigation. There's been no official word on the conditions of the victims, but friends of Keontae tell 13abc that he is stable, but drifting in and out of consciousness.

You can see the full hours of operation of the Toledo blood Donor Center or schedule an appointment to donate blood by clicking here.
