New twist in murder investigation: suspects' friend uncovers new evidence

Posted: Updated:

There's been a new twist in what police believe is a murder investigation. Robert and Desirae Strauss are behind bars in Indiana right now awaiting extradition to Toledo on murder charges. Police say they killed Brian T. Martin of Michigan and hid his body somewhere between Toledo and Indiana. TPD asked people who live in the area to check outbuildings and barns for any sign of Martin's body.

Now a friend of the couple says she's discovered evidence that could hurt them. Trisha Curtis says she struggled with the decision to turn in the evidence that might help convict her good friends of murder. She feels they're good people who made some bad choices.

"Desirae and Rob were like family to me I love them guys. They're not monsters. They were really caring people. They really were."

Curtis says Desirae has been having an affair with Martin for the past few years. She was devastated when she heard of her friend's arrest and then she remembered something.

Strauss had hidden letters from Brian Martin in her van because she didn't want her husband to find them. "I went searching for it because I remembered she stuck something in there." Curtis said she the decision to turn the evidence over to the police was a difficult one.  "I sat there and cried over it. I didn't know what I should do. Me and my husband talked about it and we decided that was the best thing to do."

Curtis says she will always lover her friends no matter what they did. "It's tearing me up. I've been crying almost every day about it. I've been worried about the kids."

Rob and Desirae have five children, ages 11, 10, 8 and twins born in April.

Trisha says her family cares deeply about the Strauss family. "Me, Randy and all the kids, we care about you guys. We always will. We'll always be there for you no matter what, always."
