Joshua Spangler doesn't mind sacrificing space on his large, corner-lot lawn if it means cash in hand for people needing close parking to the Highland Meadows Golf Club. The Sylvania homeowner expects to see a lot of people in his neighborhood in the coming days as the Marathon Classic Golf Tournament kicks into high gear."Yesterday we had about eight cars, today was maybe two or three," says Spangler, who has lived at his home for almost two years.  Northwest Ohio rolls out the green carpet for the world's best female golfers this week and they will be featured tonight on a 13abc "Tee Off" special live from Highland Meadows at 7:00pm.

LPGA stars including Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, and Stacy Lewis tee off on Thursday.  The Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning and O-I will be played at Highland Meadows Golf Club.  Since 1984, the tournament has raised millions of dollars for local children's charities and provided countless memories for golf fans.  Actor Jamie Farr lent his name to the tournament and brought celebrity friends to Toledo.  Marathon assumed title sponsorship of the event last year.

A gala preceding Tuesday night hosted by 13abc anchor Diane Larson featured appearances by defending champion Beatriz Recari and British Open champion Mo Martin, among others.  13abc produces a live preview special at 7:00pm tonight.  The show will also be live streamed on 13abc.com and takes fans inside the tournament.  Dave Holmes, Joe Nugent and Steve Slivka interview favorites including #1 ranked golfer and Toledo native Stacy Lewis.  The special will be live streamed at 13abc.com/live.

Hundreds of volunteers help make the annual tournament a reality.  Neighbors of the golf club use the opportunity to generate extra cash by parking cars.  Area businesses also profit by hosting guests for dinner and overnight stays. This year, NASCAR king Richard Petty will be at the tournament on Thursday to sign autographs and greet fans.

13abc is a "Hall of Fame" sponsor of the tournament and will have complete, live coverage on air and on line throughout the week.  13abc social media will use #marathonclassic and @marathonlpga to identify tournament postings.  Our thanks to tournament director Judd Silverman as we begin another exciting week of coverage.
