The July cool down may provide the right conditions to form a few cold air funnels or waterspouts over Lake Erie through Wednesday evening.  The picture posted shows a possible weak funnel forming over the Catawba Peninsula (from a viewer named Cindy in the early evening on 7/15/14).  Lake temperatures are running in the lower to mid 70s while the air up in the clouds is very chilly for this time of the year.  This combination can cause the occasional spin up of a funnel cloud over the lake.  These funnels and waterspouts usually stay over the water and are not associated with severe weather.  Our weather will begin to warm up later this week with weekend highs back in the mid 80s.  This will only be a brief "taste" of autumn!  -Chief Meteorologist Jay Berschback
