5-year-old girl killed in Toledo house fire identified

Posted: Updated:
Authorities have identified the little girl who was killed in a West Toledo house fire.

An official from the Toledo Fire Department tells us five-year-old Olivia Cline died early Friday morning.

The flames broke out just before 1:00 a.m. in the 6000 block of Von Wormer near Alexis and Jackman.

A family of five reportedly lived inside the building. When Toledo Fire and Rescue crews arrived, all but one of them had made it safely outside.

”The parents were out front,” says Battalion Chief David Hitt. “They stated that there was a possible victim inside of the structure. We immediately had crews ladder the building from the side window, and they attempted to do a search on the structure."

Hitt says crews battled heavy heat and poor visibility. In addition, there were conflicting reports about which room the little girl was in.

"Crews were able to get inside and do a search. After three attempts, they were able to locate a victim," says Hitt.

Firefighters eventually found the little girl in a second story bedroom. They broke out a window, pulled her out and rushed her to Toledo Hospital, where she died.

Sean Driscoll lives just two houses down. He didn't know the family and says they are new to the neighborhood.

"You're stomach just drops,” he says. “Your heart weeps and you feel for the family. It's something you don't want any family to go through."

A fund has been set up to help Olivia's family with funeral expenses. You can donate at any Fifth Third Bank.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.

If you would like to help the family, you can drop off donations at Good Times Bar on Jackman, Sunday from 3pm until 7pm.

The family will also be collecting money for Olivia's aunt who suffers from a blood vessel disorder.  Money raised will help pay for her medical bills and travel to and from the Boston hospital.

Too much of the toxic algae triggered the "do not drink" order at the start of the August.
