FBI: Dealers moved $1 million dollars in heroin

Posted: Updated:
Dozens are charged in a federal heroin indictment filed today. Twenty-six people are named in the 55-count indictment.  Around 6 a.m. Thursday morning, 100 law enforcement officers hit the streets to make the arrests.

Police opened the investigation four years ago. All the suspects were picked up except four. Authorities say the group moved about one million dollars in drugs.

This is exclusive video taken by a 13abc viewer as FBI agents rounded up suspected drug dealers. 26 people are accused of selling heroin and other drugs in Toledo. These are pictures of FBI agents at a home on Parker street. A neighbor who did not want to show his face says police were everywhere.

"There was a sniper in the back yard next door. I always cut through there to get to my house. He said hold it I said hey I'm stopping right here dude. I stopped and he said where to do live. I said right there in that house he said get in your house and stay in there," said a neighbor.

They arrested Regina Navarro. She's in handcuffs by the truck.

"They brought the lady out of there in handcuffs. The children went with their grandmother. It was a mess over there"

The 55 count indictment alleges Alejandro Garcia was the head of the drug ring. He allegedly organized shipments. They say the dealers brought drugs from Arizona, Chicago, California and Mexico to Northwest Ohio.

"It is a well organized network and these are sophisticated traffickers," said Assistant Special Agent Eric Smith.

Authorities say the mid level drug dealers used places like Ravine Park Village, Berry street, Bronson street, Main street, Starr avenue, Navarre avenue, Graham street, North Ontario street, Sylvania avenue, Heatherdowns, Parker avenue and Westfield Franklin Park Mall in Toledo to conduct their drug trafficking deals

"The mall was one of those locations that traffickers used to traffic their drugs primarily in the parking lot," said Toledo Police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

Lucas County has been plagued with heroin deaths and overdoses. Authorities say many of the users are white men and women. They believe they can stop the epidemic by busting up networks like this one.

"Stood at 60 deaths in May and is expected to be 120 by the end of the years," said Agent Smith.

Authorities also confiscated six guns and they are seeking to take nine cars and two homes. One home owned by Garcia on Narvarre avenue and this home on Parker.

"They were friendly people, but they had a lot of traffic going in and out of there," said a neighbor.

Authorities are still looking for Santos Flores, Federico Perez, Willie Smith and Osvaldo Perez.
